From an outsider’s perspective, the Queer community may appear to be a unified place where everyone is accepted. However, beneath its welcoming exterior, Queer spaces can be surprisingly exclusive. 

What the increased usage of 'twink' means for society.

In October 1975, after just six weeks of filming on a tiny budget, The Rocky Horror Picture Show landed in eight cinemas throughout North America. Critics were unimpressed – in their words, it was “laboured”, “tasteless”, and “lacking in both charm and dramatic impact”. Screenings were cancelled, the film failed to place on any charts, and from the outside, it seemed to have been consigned to the dregs of cinema history. 

The hunt for Queer spaces can be incredibly frustrating. At university, a place where many come into their own, and perhaps seek to explore their identity more openly, it can leave you thinking: “okay, what now?”

To my Queer group 

Queer liberation movements have historically not existed in isolation. Solidarity between marginalised groups has been integral to enacting social change in the past, and the continued fight for Queer liberation is a collective struggle strengthened by collaboration.
